STEAM Engine

VIRTUAL

9-13 YO

What is STEAM Engine Virtual?

STEAM Engine Virtual is the ultimate experience that combines the power of play with introduction to basic design and coding principles. In this weekly online program students will develop STEM skills such as coding, 3D modeling and graphic design to develop their own space-related game!

Game development is the secret sauce behind favorites like Fortnite, Minecraft and more! As part of this program, learners will create game characters, a game logo and 3-D model a player based on real-world machines. Learners will code computer programs in Python. Learners will also explore various topics in Earth and Space sciences, such as space travel and issues such as cleaning up space debris!

  • BEGINNER
The BEGINNER stream assumes no prior knowledge! It is for students who do not have previous experience in our STEAM Engine Virtual program or STEAM Engine Afterschool Program and/or are just starting to learn the basics.
  • ADVANCED
The ADVANCED stream is for students who have previously taken part in our STEAM Engine Virtual program OR STEAM Engine Afterschool Program (in person). This version assumes some knowledge of concepts but all concepts will be reviewed!

I thought that my peers and I were really engaged and learned lots. I especially enjoyed learning how to code in Python, I didn’t know I could make games. I also thought that the instructors were extremely helpful and responsive to the questions that I asked.

St. Paul Catholic Elementary School

This was my child's second experience with a STEAM Engine program, with the first having been an in-person, after school program. We weren't sure what to expect from a virtual, online program, but could not be more pleased with the overall offering! The content, instructors and programs used were all excellent - would highly recommend, and thanks to all involved for providing such a great experience!

- Parent of STEAM Engine Virtual Participant

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the STEAM Engine Virtual program. She enjoyed completing all the projects and the competition made her work harder. She had never done any coding prior to this. The teachers were very clear and made all concepts and programs easy to understand. She looked forward to each class and was busy doing assignments every week. A fantastic program. Many thanks to all the teachers for all their efforts. I will definitely be enrolling my daughter again the next this program is offered.
