NEXUS

Program

GR 11-12

What is NEXUS?

The NEXUS Program is designed for passionate post-secondary bound high school students. Through NEXUS, we're bridging the gap between high school and post-secondary education (PSE), whether you are planning on going into college or university - there's a place for you at NEXUS. This exclusive program will prepare students for their transition into higher education. At NEXUS, participants will be guided through a central project on machine learning, a popular technique applied in artificial intelligence. In their central project, participants will create an algorithm that teaches itself to play a game. Participants will learn fundamental programming concepts such as if/else statements, loops, functions and advanced programming techniques such as Q-learning in the Python programming language.

In addition to programming skills, the course will also provide participants with learning opportunities similar to those they will experience in university or college, placing them at a significant advantage as they transition into PSE. As such, this course will help students develop the following essential soft skills, which have been identified as the most important in ensuring success in university/college: time management, problem solving, self-directed learning and note taking.
